Congratulations on your new tattoo! You were tattooed in a clean, modern tattoo studio with sterilized instruments and pigments. If you follow these simple instructions, you will have a quick healing and attractive tattoo. REMEMBER, the life of your tattoo is dependent on the care it receives in the first few days:
– Remove bandage after 2 hours. If the dressing sticks, wet the area with lukewarm water and then remove the dressing carefully.
- Once the tattoo is exposed, wash it thoroughly with a mild soap and warm water. Be sure to remove any surface blood and rinse off any remaining soap.
- Lightly pat dry and then with CLEAN HANDS apply a small amount of A&D Ointment (can be purchased at any drug store) and massage it in like you would a hand cream/lotion. DO NOT apply a heavy coat of A&D. The skin must be able to breathe in order to heal.
– DO NOT Rub, scratch or pick at your tattoo.
– DO NOT Re–bandage your tattoo.
- DO NOT Apply Vaseline or petroleum jelly.
- DO NOT Apply alcohol.
– DO NOT Expose your tattoo to direct sunlight for two weeks.
– DO NOT Swim for two weeks.
– DO NOT Soak in a sauna, steam or tub for two weeks.
- DO NOT Have direct contact with animals on the tattooed area for two weeks.
REMEMBER, THE SUN, SALT WATER AND CHLORINE ALL ACT AS BLEACH AND MAY RUIN YOUR TATTOO.
– Keep the Tattoo Covered with clothes such as long sleeves, jeans, gloves during work/activities such as Landscaping, Gym, Labor for two weeks.
– During healing keep gym sessions brisk and shower afterwards. Do not touch your tattoo while you are at the gym. Wash your hands before if you must touch your tattoo.
– Depending on the nature of your work, it may be necessary to wear clothing heavy enough to protect your tattoo, particularly if you work around grease, oil, metal, dust, etc.
– Your tattoo will develop a layer of dry skin. It will be the same color as the tattoo. Apply ointment 3 to 5 times a day (or whenever your tattoo feels dry, light, or itchy) until this layer falls off naturally.
– After the tattoo has healed and the dry skin has fallen off, there will be a period of adjustment for the new skin. It is advisable to apply Lubriderm UNSCENTED (or any other UNSCENTED lotion) throughout the day.
– The healing process usually takes about 2 weeks, however this time may vary from person to person.
-Recommended ointment: Aquaphor, A&D, Hustle Butter.
Signs of Infection: If you experience prolonged redness, swelling, elevated body temperature, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, or purulent drainage, please contact your health care provider.
